The Caulfield Cup 2010 results did not come out as expected, as favourites Shocking, Alcopop and Herculian Prince failed to deliver on the final stretch home.

The surprising victor was Gai Waterhouse trained Descarado, who traveled around fourth to second place for most of his Caulfield Cup run before finding the heart to snatch victory from the leaders.

Another plucky run came from Harris Tweed, who has gone from a tenth place run in last year’s event to a second place finish in the Caulfield Cup 2010. With this performance, expect Harris Tweed’s Melbourne Cup odds to shorten dramatically.

Third was a photo finish that was handed to Monaco Consul, who held steady in the last hundred metres to take a place. Like Harris Tweed, many punters will now consider a Melbourne Cup bet on Monaco Consul, though his run was far less impressive than some runners further back like Alcopop.

If you would like to bet on more big Spring races, including the WS Cox Plate next weekend, make sure you sign up for an account at an online betting site like SportsBet.

We are so excited about the Caulfield Cup 2010 finally running that we will post the race results throughout the day as they become available. Keep refreshing this post to get more race results and don’t forget to sign up at online betting site SportsBet to place a wager on the races.

D’Urban Plate 2010 Results

Alotta Spur ($4.80f) did not let her many backers down when she powered home to win the 2010 D’Urban Plate. She took the run over What A Beauty ($5.50) in second and Follonica ($15) just slightly behind in third place.

Hoyts Food-Spices Stakes 2010 Results

In the Hoyts Food-Spices Stakes, Mr Chard ($5.50) proved his mettle on the heavy track by coming in ahead of top favourite Skilled in second and the classy Ace Acosta in third. This was only Mr Chard’s second career win, following on from a second place finish in the Listed Doncaster Stakes.

Sportingbet Stakes 2010 Results

Dizlago took the 2010 Sportingbet Stakes in a dominant performance on the home stretch, where early leaders like Golden Tabby and Speed of Dark slackened. In second place was Placement a few lengths behind, while third place had to go to the camera as Bride Salama finished as the marginal leader of a tightly packed group of runners.

Norman Robinson Stakes 2010 Results

Retrieve reminded us all why we had faith in him after running in the middle of the pack for much of the race, claiming first place in style in the final run home. Nearby was Almindoro, who demonstrated incredible staying power after running close to the front for the majority of the race. Marking himself as one to watch in future was Digital Fortress, who managed a third place finish in his first Group level race.

Caulfield Sprint 2010 Results

The Caulfield Sprint was won in style by Set For Fame, who stayed in around third or fourth place for much of the run before putting in the winning performance in the final straight. Second was Dubleanny in her first Group race run, with joint favourite Soul coming in third after having been stuck in the middle of the pack for most of the race.

Betfair Stakes 2010 Results

It was a terrific Betfair Stakes, as the early leaders were completely overtaken by some outstanding runs from behind in the final stretch. Queensland gelding Rothera managed to just barely snatch the victory from Sniper’s Bullet, as both put in tremendous efforts for a photo finish ahead of Jungle Ruler in third, who had led for much of the race.

David Jones Cup 2010 Results

Ginga Dude shocked everyone by running the entire David Jones Cup to take the lead early, keep it, and even gain more distance in the final few hundred metres. Putting in valiant efforts to take places were favourite Purple in second and Zoomin taking a well-earned third.

FEATURE RACE – Caulfield Cup 2010 Results

The Caulfield Cup 2010 was an astonishing run for eventual winner Descarado, who sat around second to fourth for most of the race before an inspiring run home to give him the win. Harris Tweed followed in second with a run that will increase interest in his Melbourne Cup run, and Monaco Consul finished a photo third.

Tristarc Stakes 2010 Results

The Tristarc Stakes ended the day’s Group racing action with a stylish win by Culminate and courageous runs from second place finisher Jersey Lily and third place Marquardt. These horses looked to be on a path to a loss near the last turn, but the home stretch saw them all rocket forward ahead of the previous leaders.

Carlton Draught Plate 2010 Results

Caulfield Cup Day finished with a bang thanks to a photo finish for all three places, with Varenna Miss stealing first place from a very game Flying Tessie. Netra was a head behind in third, but all three of the placegetters put in a performance deserving of a victory.

The Caulfield Cup 2010 may be over, but there is still plenty more Melbourne Spring Carnival Racing action to bet on.

The Caulfield Cup 2010 is running this Saturday October 16, and the odds have gone a little crazy as track conditions worsen in the rain. Read on for our top Caulfield Cup 2010 tips.

Master O’Reilly, Zabrasive and emergency Drunken Sailor have all been scratched. This is unlikely to have affected many punters, but there have been some changes to the favourites recently.

Prior favourite Metal Bender has now been supplanted by Shocking. Metal Bender was at $6.00 yesterday, with Shocking slightly behind at $6.50. Now Metal Bender is equal with Faint Perfume at $7.50 at SportsBet, and Shocking is the favourite at $5.00 to win. Herculian Prince has also moved further out from $7.00 to $8.00, with punters losing confidence in Gai Waterhouse’s champion.

Interestingly, Metal Bender’s chances probably improve with the wet track, so it is strange that his odds are getting wider. It is less strange for Herculian Prince, you has had little experience in the wet, and it makes sense that Shocking would look a better chance on a very heavy track.

Triple Honour is looking good at $31.00 with a lot of experience racing on heavy tracks. His odds to place of $7.50 make an each-way bet very tempting.

Alcopop seems like a decent chance again with all the rain, and this has been reflected in his odds moving from $10 to $8.50 to win. The wide barrier draw is still a worry, but a recent JRA Cup win at 2040 metres on a wet track and a second place run in the Yalumba Stakes last start do speak well for the six year old gelding.

If you would like to bet on the Caulfield Cup 2010, then make sure you sign up for a SportsBet account and take advantage of the many great racing offers they have for the Caulfield Cup.

With the Caulfield Cup 2010 barrier draw released today, online bookies have brought out their early market odds on the race. Punishing barriers for some of the favourites and premium barriers greedily taken up by emergencies have left the early market odds looking quite different to the futures odds available before.

Top of the Caulfield Cup 2010 early market odds at SportsBet is Metal Bender at $6 to win. Metal Bender has had an interesting record this season, starting with a first place in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes before climbing down the places to a fourth place Group 1 Turnbull Stakes finish last start. His only 2400 metre start before the 2010 Caulfield Cup was in the Australian Derby last year, where he placed eighth.

Close behind in the odds is 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, priced at $6.50 to win. Shocking has also had a mixed season, with a win in the Group 2 Makybe Diva Stakes and a second placing in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes. With proven staying power, Shocking is capable of at least taking a place, and a win would not be particularly surprising. If he pulls it off, expect his Melbourne Cup odds to shorten considerably.

Looking good at $7 to win is Herculian Prince, the classy entry from Gai Waterhouse who raced to a dominant victory in The Metropolitan. He also has a win in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes this season, but the fifth place finish in the Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality is worrying.

There have been some incredible Caulfield Cup runs over the past decade, so we thought we’d go take a look through the best before the Caulfield Cup 2010 runs this Saturday. Read on for our video retrospective of some glorious Caulfield Cup winners.

2009 Caulfield Cup Winner – Viewed

Viewed came into the 2009 Caulfield Cup after an horrific season where the best he had managed was a fourth place in the Memsie Stakes. Without a win since his Melbourne Cup victory the year before, Viewed reminded everyone of his quality by winning the 2009 Caulfield Cup by more than 2 lengths.

Remember that you can support the 2010 Caulfield Cup winner by placing a bet at SportsBet. It’s on this Saturday October 16, so join and bet today!

2008 Caulfield Cup Winner – All The Good

All The Good certainly wasn’t expected to win the 2008 Caulfield Cup. While he had a decent record overseas, he was coming into his first Australian race in the Caulfield Cup, a tactic that has rarely paid off. Neverthless, he just barely took the race ahead of Nom Du Jeu, taking the 2008 Caulfield Cup home to Ireland. Unfortunately, an injury to All The Good robbed him of his Melbourne Cup opportunity.

2005 Caulfield Cup Winner – Railings

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z2cxBlchqE&fmt=18

While the 2003 Caulfield Cup winner Mummified led for most of the race, Railings put in a bold effort in the last 100 metres to rocket home ahead. This should have come as a surprise to no one, as his wins in The Metropolitan and the Colin Stephen Quality just previously suggested a strong Caulfield Cup run. What was surprising was his fourteenth place Melbourne Cup finish that year and poor performance throughout his career thereafter.

2003 Caulfield Cup Winner – Mummify

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtBudlMQlUw&fmt=18

The 2003 Caulfield Cup winner Mummify had a mixed season before the race, with some placings, nowhere finishes, and a win in the Underwood Stakes. Despite this, Mummify took an early lead and held on to it throughout the race to finish just under a length ahead of Grey Song. Mummify’s Caulfield Cup run two years later was very reminiscent of his first victory, but the gelding injured himself badly and tragically had to be euthanized after that desperate performance that still earnt him a third place.

2002 Caulfield Cup Winner – Northerly

Northerly was practically fated to become the 2002 Caulfield Cup winner as he took the Craiglee Stakes, Underwood Stakes and Turnbull Stakes prior to his Caulfield Cup win. He then went on to take the Cox Plate for that season before returning early the next year to win the Australian Cup. His luck changed from there on out, but Northerly was still a force to be reckoned with in 2002 and rightly earned his Caulfield Cup win.

To support the 2010 Caulfield Cup winner and future Caulfield Cup winners, make sure you open an account with SportsBet and start punting on one of the most important horse races in the Spring season.

The Caulfield Cup 2010 barrier draw has just been released, run in a newer style where the connections draw for priority and then choose the barrier they want.

While it started out sensible with Herculian Prince getting barrier 6 as the second draw, it became slightly farcical when 3 of the emergencies drew early to take barriers 1, 4 and 5. Conversely, pre-barrier draw favourite Alcopop got barrier 22.

From barrier 9 almost all the way down the line, each connection simply chose the next barrier along. The only exception was for Zabrasive, who skipped barrier 12 to take barrier 13, with Shocking very quickly filling that barrier 12 gap.

With the Caulfield Cup barrier draw, the odds at SportsBet will likely shift dramatically. Herculian Prince will likely come out as the favourite, though this could end up being a competition with Shocking. Alcopop will surely receive odds in the middle of the pack now, while Manighar (barrier 3) and Metal Bender (barrier 2) will probably hover just behind the favourites.

If you want to bet on the latest Caulfield Cup 2010 odds as soon as they come out, then make sure you have a SportsBet account.

The Caulfield Cup 2010 field and barrier draw has been released, with a field of 18 runners and 4 emergencies. The race is set to run the Saturday October 16, and many an owner and trainer has been biting their nails in worry of whether their horses make it into this competitive Caulfield Cup field.

Top weight has been given to Shocking at 57kg. Shocking was the winner of the 2010 Melbourne Cup, which is likely the sole reason for this assigned weight.

The next highest weight goes to Metal Bender at 56kg. This may kill his chances in the race, as many quality runners will be carrying far less.

Herculian Prince is in a bit of a bind after his Metropolitan Handicap win, assigned with 53.5kg that includes a 2.0kg penalty. This has piqued many a punter’s interest in the horse, however, with many tipping him to be a good chance in either or both the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups.

Herculian Prince only just made it into the Caulfield Cup 2010 field, however, as he shared the 17th spot in the final declarations elimination order with Alcopop, Mourayan, and Red Ruler. Alcopop also made it into the race with 53.5kg, while Mourayan and Red Ruler are waiting as emergencies at the same weight.

If you want to prepare for the Caulfield Cup 2010 early market odds when they come out in just a couple of days time, or if you want to bet at the current futures odds, then you should join SportsBet now!

The third declarations have been made for the Caulfield Cup 2010, with just 41 entrants left.

Many of the early favourites will be trying to earn a ballot exemption in this weekend’s Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes, with Caulfield Cup 2010 contenders like Precedence, Moudre, and Linton running the race.

A number of surprising omissions come with the announcement of the third declarations, as horses that seemed sure to enter the Caulfield Cup 2010 dropping out after mixed performances. These include Alandi, Americain, Mr Charlie, Trusting and Speed Gifted.

A good number of foreign runners are also still entered in the Caulfield Cup 2010. These raiders include Mr Medici from Hong Kong, Tokai Trick from Japan, Drunken Sailor from Great Britain, and French standout Manighar. All of these horses are Melbourne Cup hopefuls looking for a balloting exemption, all specializing in longer distance races than most Australian horses are used to running.

The odds have also moved with the Caulfield Cup 2010 third declarations. Metal Bender tops the SportsBet odds at $8.00 to win, with Moudre behind at $10.00. Behind them at $11.00 are Dariana, Herculian Prince, Precedence, and Shocking. Manighar trails further at $15.00, the French runner having had an unlucky season prior to an attempt at Australia’s beloved Cups double.

If you would like to get in an early bet on the Caulfield Cup 2010, the make sure you sign up for a SportsBet account today! Don’t forget, you can also bet on the Caulfield Guineas Day races this weekend, which will feature many top Caulfield Cup hopefuls.
